These Terms include an assumption of risk, a release of liability including negligence, and — for parents and guardians — an indemnification and medical authorization. By using this marketplace or booking a session, you agree to them.
A Hockey Life LLC ("A Hockey Life", "we", "us") operates this online marketplace for finding and booking ice time — drop-in hockey, stick & puck, open skates, lessons, and similar sessions — at independent ice rinks. We are a booking and payment service only. Rinks own, operate, maintain, and supervise their facilities and their ice. We do not control ice conditions, facility maintenance, supervision, or the conduct of sessions.
When you commit, your payment card is securely saved by Stripe but NOT charged. A spot is confirmed only if the session runs and that saved card is charged. If the hour does not run, your commitment is released automatically — nothing is charged, and there is nothing to refund because no money ever moved.
The session price is set by, and belongs entirely to, the rink. At checkout we add a separate service fee — $2.49 each for 1 or 2 spots on open hours; 3 or more, one payer, the lesser of that or 6% of the ice for those spots. Whole sheet is 6% once — on top of the rink’s rate, never out of it. You see it before you commit. That fee runs the site — on top of the rink’s number, never out of it.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card number.
Some listed ice is posted as a proposed session with one named type (for example stick & puck or drop-in). When you commit, your payment card is securely saved by Stripe but NOT charged. If enough skaters commit and that session is confirmed ("tips"), your saved card is automatically charged the ice price plus the service fee, your spot is booked, and you receive a confirmation. By committing, you authorize this charge.
If the session does not tip by its deadline, your card is never charged and your commitment is released — there is nothing to refund because no money ever moved. If a charge to your saved card fails when a session tips, you are not booked; we will notify you so you can book normally if spots remain.
While your card is saved and the hour has not confirmed, you may cancel anytime from My Bookings — nothing is charged. After the hour confirms and your card is charged, you cannot self-cancel. If something came up, email ross@ahockeylife.com or call (216) 236-3833 and a real person will help.
If a rink or A Hockey Life cancels a session, or a session cannot be delivered substantially as listed, you receive a full refund of everything you paid, including the service fee. Refunds are issued to your original payment method.
ICE SKATING AND HOCKEY ARE INHERENTLY DANGEROUS ACTIVITIES. The risks include, without limitation: falls on ice; collisions with other participants, boards, glass, goals, pucks, sticks, and skate blades; variations in ice quality and surface conditions; equipment failure; the actions or negligence of other participants; and conditions of the rink premises, including locker rooms, walkways, and bleachers. These risks can result in serious bodily injury, permanent disability, paralysis, or death.
BY BOOKING, COMMITTING TO, OR PARTICIPATING IN ANY SESSION, YOU KNOWINGLY AND VOLUNTARILY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS, whether listed above or not, whether arising from the inherent nature of the activity or from the ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE of A Hockey Life, the rink, or other participants.
To the fullest extent permitted by Ohio law, in exchange for being permitted to book and participate in sessions, you — for yourself, your heirs, assigns, and legal representatives — RELEASE, WAIVE, AND DISCHARGE, and covenant not to sue, A Hockey Life LLC, its members, owners, employees, and agents, and the applicable rink and its owners, employees, and agents, from any and all claims, demands, and causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, injury, or death sustained in connection with a booked session or presence at a rink, INCLUDING CLAIMS BASED ON ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE.
This release does not extend to gross negligence, willful or wanton misconduct, or any liability that cannot lawfully be waived.
Participants under 18 ("minor skaters") may participate only when a parent or legal guardian makes the booking or commitment, identifies the minor skater truthfully, and accepts these Terms on the minor’s behalf. By doing so, you represent that you are the minor’s parent or legal guardian with authority to act for them.
PARENTAL RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION: To the fullest extent permitted by law, you accept the assumption of risk (Section 5) and release (Section 6) on the minor skater’s behalf. SEPARATELY AND INDEPENDENTLY, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless A Hockey Life LLC and the rink from any claim brought by or on behalf of the minor skater, or by any other person, arising out of the minor’s participation, including the costs of defending such a claim. This indemnification obligation stands on its own and applies even if any release in these Terms is found unenforceable.
MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION: If the minor skater is injured and you are not immediately available, you authorize rink staff and emergency personnel to secure medical treatment for the minor, and you accept responsibility for the costs of that treatment. You agree to provide accurate emergency contact information at booking.
Sessions may carry their own age rules (age groups, adults-only, guardian-on-ice requirements) shown at booking; those rules and all rink rules apply.
Provide accurate booking, participant, and emergency contact information. For drop-in hockey, stick & puck, and practice sessions: full hockey equipment is required (helmet, gloves, pads, and stick) — no exceptions unless the rink posts otherwise. For open skate and similar recreational sessions: wear appropriate protective equipment; helmets are strongly recommended and may be required by the rink. Follow all rink rules, posted signage, and staff instructions. We and the rink may refuse entry or remove any participant for unsafe conduct, without refund.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid (including the service fee) for the booking giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for the acts or omissions of rinks, which are independent businesses we do not control.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio.
SEVERABILITY: every provision of these Terms, including each paragraph of Sections 5, 6, and 7, is independent and severable. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and all remaining provisions continue in full force.
We may update these Terms; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
